Ksamil or Himarë?
The Riviera's two best-known bases, and the gap between them is now mostly a price gap. Both have the water people come for; only one has kept the cost of a day in the same decade as the rest of the coast.
Side by side
| Ksamil | Himarë | |
|---|---|---|
| Sunbeds, 2026 | 1,500-3,000 lek per set on standard beaches. | 700-1,200 lek per set. |
| What that was in 2023 | 800-1,500 lek. The price roughly doubled in three seasons. | 500-800 lek. A real rise, at less than half Ksamil's rate. |
| Crowd at peak | Severe, with heavy construction alongside it. | Moderate, with the impact assessed as manageable. |
| A day here | Not published as a figure, and the sunbed line above is the reason to assume it is high. | 50-80 euros per person including a bed, meals and beach access. |
| What you are actually buying | The islets and the shallows, which are the best water on the coast and are not in dispute. | A working town with a beach, rather than a beach with a town attached. |
Our answer
Base in Himarë and visit Ksamil for a day. Ksamil's water is genuinely the best on the coast and its sunbed market has doubled in three seasons while Himarë's has not, so paying Ksamil prices to sleep there buys you the crowd as well as the view. Himarë is two hours up the SH8 and costs a documented 50 to 80 euros a day all in.
IfYou are here for the water above everything elseKsamil, early in the day, and out again before the afternoon fills it.
IfYou want a base for a week on the coastHimarë. The day rate is published, the crowd is moderate and the SH8 runs both ways from it.
IfYou are travelling in July or AugustHimarë, and treat Ksamil as a morning rather than a plan.
IfYou want the Ksamil water without the Ksamil priceNeither. Borsh or Lukovë, further north, at a fraction of the sunbed rate.
