September holds a sea at 24°C, an Alps season that runs to the end of the month, clear air after the summer haze, and roughly half of August's arrivals. It is the only month where the coast, the mountains and the stone towns are all at or near their best at the same time.

Is September the best month to visit Albania?
For a trip that mixes coast and mountains, yes. The sea is still at 24°C, the Theth road and the Koman ferry are both open, the pass is clear, and the crowd and price peak has passed.
Can you still swim in September?
Yes, comfortably, and into the first half of October. The sea holds heat longer than the air does.
Are the Alps still open in September?
Yes, and it is the clearest month up there. The first snow and the hut closures come in October, and the Theth road shuts around mid-November.
Is the Koman ferry running in September?
Daily, until 5 November. Koman at 09:00, Fierza at 13:00, EUR 9 online or EUR 10 in cash.
How much cheaper is September than August?
Enough to notice on accommodation and sunbeds, though the published 2026 sunbed ranges are quoted for the season rather than by month. The bigger saving is in what you can get at all: the beaches and the ferry stop selling out.
