Getting there
car, bus, boat. Twenty minutes south of Sarandë by road, and the last of it is slow in summer. Come early or come out of season; there is no version of an August afternoon here that is not busy.
Parking: Informal paid parking that fills by mid-morning in July and August.
Photography
Best light: sunrise, morning, sunset.
The islets face west, so the water reads best in the morning and the light is best at the end of the day. In peak season the honest photograph includes the sunbeds. Check drone requirements with the AAC before travelling.
Drone: not confirmed. Albania's registration requirement is reported differently by every secondary source, so verify with the AAC before you fly.
Ksamil is the picture that sold Albania, and it is also where the cost of that has landed hardest. The islets are real, the water really is that colour, and the shallows between the beach and the rocks are warm and swimmable for a long season.
What has changed is everything around them. Sunbed prices roughly doubled between 2023 and 2026, beach clubs have taken more of the sand, and the peak crowd level here is rated severe where the rest of the Riviera is rated high or moderate. In the second week of August the islets are shoulder to shoulder.
The honest advice is a month, not a boycott. May, June and September are the same water at a fraction of the pressure. If your dates are fixed in July or August, base in Himarë instead and come to Ksamil for a morning, or go further south to Borsh and Qeparo, which the same survey rates as largely unaffected.
