August · month profile
Peak everything
The warmest sea of the year, the highest prices, and the only month the Riviera feels completely full. It is not a month to avoid so much as one to base differently: Himarë instead of Ksamil, the Alps instead of the coast, and the Korçë highlands for a fortnight of festival and cool nights.

Asked about August
Is August too crowded in Albania?
On the Riviera, in places. Ksamil, Sarandë and Dhërmi carry the load; Himarë is busy but manageable and Borsh, Qeparo and Vuno stay quiet. Inland and in the Alps, August is simply the high season.
When is the Korça Beer Festival?
12 to 16 August 2026, its twentieth edition, at the South Pole venue in Drenovë just outside Korçë. Admission is free.
How warm is the sea in August?
About 27°C on the Ionian, the warmest of the year. September is within a couple of degrees of it with half the people.
Where should I stay instead of Ksamil?
Himarë for a base with a town attached, or Borsh and Qeparo for reliably uncrowded beaches. Sunbeds around Himarë were 700-1,200 lek in 2026 against Ksamil's 1,500-3,000.
Can I fly into Vlora airport for the Riviera?
No. Vlora International has no scheduled commercial passenger service as of July 2026; the planned Zurich route was cancelled for the season. Tirana is still the arrival airport.
