Getting there
car, bus. The north's road hub, about ninety minutes from Tirana. Furgons leave for Theth at 07:00 from the Rozafa Hotel and for Koman early enough to make the 09:00 ferry.
Parking: Street parking around the pedestrian centre; paid lots near the castle road.

Best light: golden, sunset.
Rozafa castle looks west over the confluence and the lake, so it is a late-afternoon subject. Check drone requirements with the AAC before travelling.
Drone: not confirmed. Albania's registration requirement is reported differently by every secondary source, so verify with the AAC before you fly.
Shkodër is not where anyone plans to spend their week, and it is where a northern trip either works or does not. The 07:00 furgon to Theth leaves from here, the drive to the Koman ferry pier starts here, and the transfer back from Fierzë ends here.
Given a night it repays it. Rozafa castle stands over the point where three rivers meet and the lake begins, and it is one of the few big views in Albania that is a five-minute drive rather than a hike. The pedestrian centre is Italianate and full of cafés, and out of season it is very cheap.
The town's year follows the ferry's. From 15 April it is a hub; after 5 November the corridor north closes and Shkodër goes back to being a wet provincial city with a good castle.
