Shkodër is where northern Albania is organised: the buses, the shuttles, the rental desks and the last supermarket before the mountains. Rozafa castle stands over the confluence outside the town, and the lake behind it runs on into Montenegro.
Upstream, the Koman gorge is the part people remember. The Berisha ferry crosses it daily through the season, carrying cars, vans and walkers between Koman and Fierzë. Outside that window a smaller local boat still works the lake, but it is a supply run for the villages rather than a crossing built for visitors.
