The coast without the coast season
May is the Riviera's own answer: 23°C days, a sea at 18°C, and prices and crowds that have not arrived yet. The Alps are still marginal, with snow on the pass into the first half of June, so May is a coast, canyon and stone-town month rather than a hiking one.

Is May or September better for Albania?
September, for most trips. May has greener landscapes and lower prices; September has a sea at 24°C instead of 18°C and the Alps fully open. May wins only if you are here for the inland towns.
Can you swim in Albania in May?
At 18°C, briefly and by choice. The sunbeds are out and half the price they will be in August.
Is the Valbonë to Theth hike open in May?
Usually not. Snow sits on the pass and the huts are not all open. Mid-June is the honest start of the season.
What does a sunbed cost in May?
Below the summer rate everywhere. In Ksamil the 2026 standard range is 1,500-3,000 lek at peak, from 1,500 lek in the shoulder; Himarë runs 700-1,200 lek.
Are the Karaburun boats running in May?
Yes, the season starts. It is the quietest month to do the peninsula and the caves.
