Lukovë

The far-south Ionian beach that stayed uncommercialised: no beach clubs and no music, on a coast where that is now the exception.

August: ok. The peak, and it keeps an uncrowded feel through it.

Getting there

car. An unpaved road down from the SH8, between Himarë and Sarandë, with free parking within walking distance of the shore. The source is plain that a car is the practical way in.

Facing west on the Ionian, so the end of the day does the work and the middle of it goes flat. Check drone requirements with the AAC before travelling.

Drone: not confirmed. Albania's registration requirement is reported differently by every secondary source, so verify with the AAC before you fly.

Lukovë sits between Himarë and Sarandë, down an unpaved road off the SH8, and it has not been built on the way the rest of this coast has. No beach clubs, no music, small cafés and bars, showers and changing cabins, and a sunbed set at around five to ten euro, which is the cheapest found anywhere on the Riviera.

There are no lifeguards. That matters more here than it would elsewhere, because the water is calm and shallow and reads as safer than it is supervised.

The season is the coast's season. Late May to early October, with June and September the best of it, and nothing specific to Lukovë shifts that window either way.
