Getting there

boat. There is no public road onto the peninsula. Day boats run from Vlorë and Orikum between roughly May and October and nothing operates in winter, which makes the season the whole constraint. The water around it is a protected marine area, and the seaward side is exposed once the wind gets up.

Best light: morning.

Sea caves and cliffs on the seaward side, which low sun does not reach, so the usable window is the middle of the day with the boat close in. Check drone requirements with the AAC before travelling, and note the naval base on the bay behind you.

Karaburun is the longest uninhabited stretch of coast in Albania: a limestone peninsula closing the western side of Vlorë bay, with sea caves, cliffs and a protected marine area around it, and no road onto any of it.

That is why it reads as a season rather than as a place. Day boats run from Vlorë and Orikum from roughly May to October; outside that nothing goes, and for half the year the honest answer is that you cannot get there.

The trips combine cave stops with swimming and usually take in Sazan on the same day. Go in the morning: the seaward side is exposed, and the wind and the swell build through the afternoon.
