Getting there
car. About 142 km from Tirana on the road to Theth, via Shkodër and Koplik. The road closes roughly mid-November to late March, and everything about a winter visit follows from that.
Parking: Guesthouse and roadside parking in the valley.
Photography
Best light: morning, golden.
A u-shaped glacial valley with 2,000 m walls, so the sun arrives late and leaves early and the middle of the day is the flattest light you will get. Check drone requirements with the AAC before travelling.
Drone: not confirmed. Albania's registration requirement is reported differently by every secondary source, so verify with the AAC before you fly.
Bogë is the last settlement with year-round infrastructure on the road up to Theth, sitting in a u-shaped glacial valley several kilometres long with peaks above 2,000 m around it. Guesthouses, hotels, camping, restaurants and bars have all arrived in the last decade, which is what makes it a stop rather than a place you pass.
Above the village is Puci Cave, at 1,087 m, five kilometres long and multi-level, with an underground lake and a connection through to the Cave of Husi. It is the largest cave system in the country and it is described as suitable only for experienced cavers. No guiding arrangement, permit or fee for it could be confirmed, so none is printed here.
The season is the road's season. Theth's road closes around mid-November and reopens in late March or early April, and Bogë is on it. Winter use of the valley is claimed in places and none of it could be verified, so this page says nothing about a winter here.
