Getting there

car. About half an hour north of Pogradec on the road toward the Qafë Thanë border crossing. The lake surface sits at roughly 695 m and the village is on it.

Lin is a village on a narrow peninsula poking into Lake Ohrid, half an hour north of Pogradec on the road to the Qafë Thanë crossing. On the hill above it stands a sixth-century basilica whose floor mosaics are the strongest single cultural object on the Albanian side of a UNESCO lake.

June and September are the months, and the mechanism here is domestic rather than international. August fills the lake's beaches and rooms with Albanian holidaymakers; the two shoulder months give the same warm water, the same long days, and far fewer people.

No admission, opening hours or custody arrangement for the mosaics could be established, so none is printed here. A hilltop mosaic floor in the open air is exactly the kind of site that turns out to be gated, seasonal, or opened by somebody in the village who holds the key, so treat access as unresolved until you are standing there.
